Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, has reportedly been sentenced to 75 years imprisonment after being convicted over the laundering of ₦33.8 billion allocated for electricity projects in Nigeria.
The court found him guilty on multiple charges, stating that funds linked to power projects were allegedly diverted through private companies. He was handed sentences across 12 counts and also ordered to refund ₦22 billion.
Reports further claim that Mamman has gone missing since the judgement, prompting a court in Abuja to issue a warrant for his arrest.
The development has sparked renewed outrage among Nigerians, many of whom continue to face unstable electricity supply, frequent blackouts, and rising fuel costs despite huge sums previously budgeted for the power sector.
