Does Abuja belongs to Hausa or Gbagi people of Bwari ?
Do Hausa think they are more powerful physically or
spiritually ?
Do they think they can conquer the whole country as of their more population ?
These questions runs through my mind every time I think of
how non Hausa’s are been treated. It happens every day as I always imagine what
could be done to stop this daffy attitude of them. Did you ever experience any
painful act from any of the “aboki’s” as
generally been called? Staying in Abuja or just visit to Abuja, you must experience something about them
especially if you are staying or living in a low income area where workers live
on account of affordable accommodation like Lugbe, Mpape, Dutse, Zuba, Mararaba, Nyanyan, Dede,
Gwagwa, Kubwa, Karmo, Galadimawa and many more other places. How it
is frustrating to speak other people’s language under pressure. Most of these
Hausa’s you will see, come from village to work in Abuja, yet they dominate
everywhere. If you cannot speak Hausa you are not their friend at all, but if
you can, you are partially their
friend. Their major works in
Abuja are OKADA RIDING, MARUWA RIDING, TAXI DRIVING, “MERUWA” (WATER SELLING), “MESHAI”
(PREPARING BREAD AND TEA, NOODLES AND EGG), FRUIT SELLERS. These has been
most of their major occupations over the years among othersHave you ever board an Aboki’s okada? On
different occasion I did. The day I told aboki to take me to Gtbank in KUBWA,
from NYSC camp where I normally take for #50, he charged me #70 and I did not border,
I board the bike just to get to my destination, on the way going he passed a
strange road which I was never familiar to lead to Gtbank, I did called his
attention but he asked me not to worried and i succumbed thinking otherwise. We
could only land in Zenith bank and he stopped, why did you stop I asked and all
I could hear was just like when you communicating with a dumb, of course dumb
is better in the sense that he will demonstrate, only other Okada member who
are almost all Hausa’s came when they noticed something is wrong and could
speak their so called language to each other. Yes I called it so called because
they worship the language, if not how can you be so humiliated just because you
do not speak the language, which is that anyways. As I was saying, they could
only hear from him and did not bother to hear
from me and could only asked me to add more money so that he can take me
there, I refused and I had a (Yoruba)voice underground saying “Koi ti mo awon Aboki”, which simply
means “He hasn’t known the Aboki’s”. Aboki in Hausa means FRIEND, but most
people who do not understand Hausa see it as an abusive word just like FOOLS,
some or most of the Hausa’s now even believe they mock them by calling them
that name (Aboki), Infact I use to call
my friends Aboki when they misbehave, OBANOYEN GANI is Aboki. Should I now say that the meaning of
Aboki is fool? That will be determined when I write my own dictionary. What
about MALLAM’s? Mallam means “Teacher” according to them, but non Hausa’s
especially the Yoruba’s call it MALLA, the M is lost in their tongues, and they
refer to this sometimes as ZOMBIE’s. Those that do not have brain, no
conscience and get angry over every little thing, and could be very, very
aggressive, in fact my friend UCHE KENETH is a MALLA (Sorry i'm just trying to make you popular). Lets I did not forget how I was dragging with the Aboki, declined
to pay a dime more to get to my destination, this was when an IGBO man came
whisper to my hears, just give him the money and let the sleeping dog lye.
Hmmm! I exclaimed, what oppression… This experience also educate me on how the
Yoruba’s are found of gossip, the Yoruba man who spoke underground could have
done what the Igbo man did but was it for the fear of the Hausa’s?
